Ways to lower ovarian cancer risk, genetic counselling and why CA-125 is not a screening test.
Ovarian cancer cannot be fully prevented, and there is no proven screening test for women at average risk. You can lower risk and catch problems earlier.
Steps that may lower risk
If you have a high-risk family
Screening
CA-125 blood tests and pelvic ultrasound are not recommended for screening average-risk women, as they often give false alarms and have not been shown to save lives.
Ayurvedic view
Traditional advice for healthy living, regular routine and balanced meals supports overall health. No herb or therapy is proven to prevent ovarian cancer.
See a doctor if you have a family history of ovarian, breast or colon cancer, or symptoms that persist.
When to get help
Contact your gynaecologist or oncologist promptly if symptoms are new, persistent or worsening. Do not wait for them to settle on their own, and do not delay treatment for alternative therapies. Early assessment and a clear plan with your team give the best chance of good outcomes.
Remember
Know your family history and act on persistent symptoms. These are the most useful steps.
