Ayurvedic view of pancreatitis-type pain, traditional diet and herbs, and why emergencies need hospital care.
In Ayurveda, severe upper abdominal pain with digestive disturbance is discussed in terms of Pitta and Vata aggravation and weak digestive fire (Agni). The pancreas has no exact classical equivalent. This page describes the traditional approach. It is an interpretive framework, evidence from good trials is limited, and it must not delay emergency care. Acute pancreatitis can be life-threatening.
Traditional understanding
Heavy, oily, spicy, fermented food, alcohol and irregular meals are said to aggravate Pitta and impair Agni. Stress and fasting are said to aggravate Vata.

What research says
There is no good evidence that Ayurvedic herbs treat pancreatitis. Some herbs can irritate the stomach, affect the liver, or interact with medicines. Some preparations have been linked with liver injury and with heavy metals.
Safety
Call 112 or go to hospital for sudden severe upper belly pain with vomiting, fever or yellow eyes.
See a doctor if you have repeated belly pain after meals, greasy stools or weight loss.
Remember
Ayurvedic diet advice may support recovery. Treatment of the disease is medical.
