How acute pancreatitis progresses, how severity is graded, and stages of chronic disease.
Pancreatitis does not have formal numbered stages, but doctors follow a pattern and use severity grading.
Course of acute pancreatitis
Severity grading
Stages of chronic pancreatitis
Ayurvedic view
Ayurveda does not describe staging in this way. This is a modern clinical description.
Why it matters
Severity decides who needs hospital, intensive care, nutrition support or procedures.
See a doctor if pain returns after you recover, you lose weight, or you pass greasy stools.
When to get help
See a doctor if upper belly pain keeps coming back, if you have gallstones, high triglycerides or a family history of pancreatitis, or if you pass greasy stools or lose weight. Go to hospital at once for sudden severe pain with vomiting.
Remember
Most acute attacks are mild and recover fully. Severe attacks need urgent hospital care.
