Complications of piles and why bleeding must be checked.
Piles are usually not dangerous, but they can cause problems if they are ignored or severe.
Possible complications
Important: bleeding is not always piles
Rectal bleeding can come from fissures, polyps, inflammatory bowel disease or bowel cancer. Do not assume it is piles, especially over 40 or with a change in bowel habits, weight loss or black stools.
Emergency signs: call 112 or 102
Who is at higher risk
People with long-term constipation, obesity, pregnancy, liver disease, or those on blood thinners.
Ayurvedic view (interpretive)
Neglected Arsha is described as becoming harder to treat. This is a traditional view and does not replace a medical examination.
When to get help
See a doctor early for any bleeding, a lump, or pain that is not settling.
Small steps taken early work better than waiting for symptoms to become severe.
Remember
Early treatment prevents most complications. New bleeding always needs a medical check.
