Ayurvedic view of kidney stones (ashmari): traditional herbs and diet, limited evidence and safety cautions.
In Ayurveda, kidney stones and urinary stones are called ashmari. They are described as hardened deposits in the urinary tract linked to Kapha with Vata and Pitta.

What the evidence says
Some laboratory and small clinical studies suggest that certain herbs may reduce stone formation or help small stone passage, but the quality is low and results are mixed. No Ayurvedic preparation has been proven to dissolve or remove stones reliably. Ayurveda should be an adjunct and not a substitute for modern care.
Cautions
Key point
Ayurvedic care may support fluids and diet advice, but stones need medical assessment, and no herbal remedy replaces it.
Before your appointment
Note when the pain began, where it is, and whether you have noticed blood, fever, nausea or burning in your urine. Record how much you drink and pass urine in a day. List medicines and supplements, especially vitamin C, vitamin D, calcium and herbal products. Mention previous stones, gout, bowel surgery, urinary infections and family history. Bring earlier scans and reports. If you pass a stone, save it for analysis. Ask about tests, the stone type and a prevention plan. Call 112 for fever with pain or if you pass no urine.
