Weekly water-container hygiene plus daytime bite protection - and net the fever patient so mosquitoes cannot spread it.
No vaccine is yet widely available for chikungunya in India - so prevention is mosquito prevention. The good news: this mosquito is a home breeder, and the household controls its own risk.
In the first week of illness the patient's blood carries virus: keep them under a net and repellent - every mosquito that bites them becomes a carrier to the family. This step is the most skipped and the most valuable during outbreaks.
Returning from an outbreak area with fever? Assume chikungunya or dengue possible, test early, and mosquito-protect yourself for a week - imported cases seed local outbreaks.
Pregnant women near delivery, newborns, adults over 65, and people with diabetes, hypertension or heart disease - for them, prevention is worth double effort.
Weekly water-container hygiene plus daytime bite protection (sleeves, repellent, mesh, fans) - and net the fever patient so the mosquitoes in the house cannot spread it further.
