Yoga and breathing exercises for bronchitis: pursed-lip breathing, huff coughing, safe asana, and pranayama cautions.
Breathing practices have a natural place in bronchitis recovery - with honest limits. Yoga does not treat the infection or reverse COPD; it trains breathing efficiency, clears mucus better, and steadies the anxiety that breathlessness brings.
Slow, gentle breathing practice is reasonable; forceful techniques (Kapalbhati, strong Bhastrika) are NOT appropriate during acute illness, during a COPD flare, or uncontrolled breathlessness - and evidence for pranayama curing lung disease does not exist. Used gently, breathing practice is a support habit, not a treatment.
The classics treated respiratory illness with regimen as much as medicine - warm surroundings, measured effort, seasonal adjustment. Gentle, regular breathing practice fits that oldest layer of respiratory care: modest, daily, and safe.
Pursed-lip and belly breathing plus huff coughing are the daily tools; walk as you mend; skip forceful pranayama when ill; let yoga carry comfort and function while medicine carries treatment.
