Home remedies and habits for reflux, with what has limited evidence.
Simple home measures can reduce reflux symptoms for many people, particularly mild or occasional ones. They work best alongside medical advice when symptoms are frequent. Home care is not a replacement for evaluation of alarm symptoms.
Habits that help
Foods and drinks people find soothing Oatmeal, bananas, melon, ginger in small amounts, non-citrus fruits, and plain cold or room temperature milk or water. Responses vary, so a food diary can show your own triggers. Avoid large amounts of peppermint, which can relax the valve.
Common remedies with limited evidence
Ayurvedic view (interpretive) Traditional advice favours cooling, mildly sweet foods and regular meals. Treat it as a supportive routine and not a proven treatment.
When to stop home care See a doctor if symptoms occur more than twice a week, persist beyond two weeks, or come with swallowing trouble, weight loss, vomiting blood or black stools.
Remember Home care helps with mild symptoms. Do not delay care for chest pain, which can be a heart problem.
