Ayurvedic view of migraine as Ardhavabhedaka: traditional therapies, limited evidence and safety cautions.
Ayurveda describes recurring half-sided head pain as Ardhavabhedaka, and severe cases as Suryavarta in some texts. It links them to Vata, Pitta and sometimes Kapha imbalance. This is a traditional framework. Research on Ayurvedic treatment for migraine is limited, and results are mixed.
Traditional approaches
These ideas may help some people feel calmer, but proof that they prevent or treat migraine is limited.
Safety
Emergency (112 or 102)
Sudden worst headache, weakness, speech trouble, fever with stiff neck or a headache after head injury.
Key point
Treat Ayurveda as an adjunct. Check any herb with your doctor, especially if you take other medicines.
