Classical vicharchika matches eczema symptom for symptom - kandu, pidaka, shyava, bahu-srava - with khadira, neem, manjistha and haridra as honest adjuncts.
Ayurveda organised skin diseases into a formal system two thousand years ago - and one of its categories describes eczema symptom for symptom. Its herbs are genuine comfort medicine; its limits deserve the same honesty.
The classics classified all skin diseases into 18 types of kushtha - 7 major (mahakushtha) and 11 minor (kshudrakushtha). Charaka Samhita (Nidana Sthana 5, Kushtha Nidanam) explains that every skin disease involves the three doshas corrupting four tissues - skin, blood, muscle and lymph-plasma - a strikingly structural theory for its era. Treatment chapters: Charaka Chikitsa Sthana 7, Sushruta Chikitsa Sthana 9-10, Ashtanga Hridaya Chikitsa Sthana 19.
Among the kshudrakushtha sits vicharchika - and its classical lakshanas read like a dermatology textbook's eczema description:
References: Charaka Chikitsa 7.26, Sushruta Nidana 5.13, Ashtanga Hridaya Nidana 14.30, Madhava Nidana 49.24. The classical itch-ooze-thicken sequence matches the acute-to-chronic eczema stages remarkably.
Sudden itchy wheals and hives were classified separately - sheetapitta (pitta-vata, triggered by cold wind), udarda (kapha-vata, cold damp) and kotha (kapha-pitta, linked to incompatible foods) - Madhava Nidana 50, Charaka Sutra 26, Ashtanga Hridaya Uttara 31. The allergic contact and urticarial patterns live here.
Ayurveda's vicharchika (Charaka Chikitsa 7.26) describes eczema's itch, eruptions, darkening and oozing precisely, and khadira, neem, manjistha and haridra are its classical skin herbs - genuine supportive tradition alongside, never instead of, the moisturiser-and-treatment foundation.

Acute weeping flare, subacute dry simmer, chronic thickened skin - all three driven by one itch-scratch cycle.
Thick fragrance-free moisturiser 3-4 times daily, short lukewarm baths, cool compresses, oatmeal soaks, short nails - home care IS the foundation.
The boring daily trio - moisturise without fail, bathe short and lukewarm, dress soft - plus trigger habits, stress care and short nails.
Irritants like soaps, allergens like nickel and fragrance, the inherited atopic barrier, stress and weather - dermatitis is never contagious.
Skin infections including the eczema herpeticum emergency, permanent thickening, broken sleep, low mood, eye trouble in atopics, ulcers in stasis.
