Dengue moves through three stages: the febrile phase, the critical phase when fever falls but danger peaks, and the recovery phase.
Dengue runs a three-act course over about ten days, and the plot twist is built in: the middle act - when the fever breaks - is the dangerous one. Knowing the stages tells you when to relax and when to watch hardest.
Dengue's stages are the febrile days (test, paracetamol, fluids), the critical days 3-7 window after fever falls (watch for abdominal pain, vomiting, bleeding, lethargy - hospital if any appear), and a recovery week or two of rebuilding - the trap being that the dangerous stage looks like improvement.
