Charaka described epidemics two thousand years ago - janapadodhwamsa, whole communities falling ill through corrupted air, water, land and season. Ayurveda's honest COVID role is comfort care for mild illness and rasayana support for convalescence: warm fluids, steam, gargles, light food, rest. What genuinely helps, and the hard limits.
COVID is a viral illness that modern medicine handles with vaccines, antivirals, oxygen and steroids when needed. Ayurveda's honest place here is the one it occupied through the pandemic years: comfort care for mild illness and classical wisdom for convalescence - alongside, never instead of, medical care. Interestingly, the classics had a strikingly modern-looking epidemic framework.
Classical texts prescribe rejuvenative support after severe fever, when strength and reserves are depleted: Guduchi (giloy) celebrated as the premier anti-fever rasayana for residual weakness and low-grade lingering fever, Chyawanprash for respiratory rebuilding, and formulations like Agastya rasayana for post-illness cough and breathlessness. Honest framing: a sensible traditional convalescent toolkit for the recovery weeks - complementary to, not competitive with, medical follow-up, and worth discussing with the doctor for anyone on regular medicines.
Ayurveda's COVID role is honest comfort care - warm fluids, steam, gargle, light food and rest for mild illness, with the classical janapadodhwamsa and agantuja-jwara chapters showing how seriously the classics took epidemic disease - while vaccines prevent and hospitals treat the severe.

COVID spreads through the air we share indoors - tiny particles from an infected person's breath, talking, coughing and singing, hanging longest in closed, crowded, poorly ventilated spaces. Variants keep the virus evolving, and risk of severe illness rises sharply with age and certain conditions. What actually causes infection, and who needs to stay careful.
COVID-19 is the illness caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus - mostly a fever, cough and tired week for the vaccinated and healthy, but still dangerous for the elderly and vulnerable. In 2026 it circulates as an endemic virus: not an emergency, not gone either. Here is what it is, how it behaves now, and the calm response that actually works.
Most COVID ends in a week or two, but its complications are real: pneumonia and oxygen dependence in the acute phase, blood clots and MIS-C rarely, and long COVID - months of fatigue, brain fog and breathlessness - in a stubborn minority. What can go wrong, who it happens to, and what helps.
COVID behaves differently in special situations. Pregnancy raises the stakes and vaccination is recommended; children usually sail through but MIS-C is the rare exception to know; the elderly and chronically ill still face the highest risk and benefit most from boosters and early antivirals. Each situation, honestly explained.
During COVID, food is simple medicine: warm, light, nourishing. Khichdi, soups, dals and plenty of fluids through the feverish days; protein and vegetables to rebuild strength after. What to eat during each phase, what to skip, and why no food - however healthy - prevents or cures the virus itself.
Most COVID is treated at home - rest, fluids, paracetamol, isolation, and a pulse oximeter for warning signs. Severe disease is treated in hospital with oxygen, steroids and antivirals. The full treatment picture: what to do each day at home, the red flags that mean hospital, and how recovery works.
